U.S. favorites Heather Richardson and Brittany Bowe raced to the finish line hoping to get the best time – and the first U.S. medal for speed skating in Sochi – but it was China’s Zhang Hong who took home the gold. (Better luck next time, America). Team USA enjoyed a surge in the Olympic medal standings Thursday at the Sochi Games. An impressive performance in men's slopestyle skiing highlighted a day filled with enthusiastic American efforts yesterday. Canada didn't do the best yesterday they didn't earn one medal. Today I'm going to pick Rick Nash who is on the hockey team. I picked Rick Nash because he tried so hard to get a goal in he fell and still tried and I think he made it in. Someone who inspired me was Patrick Chan because he is so good at skating and I think figure skating is amazing. Some country's that earned medals are France who earned 1 medal, Germany earned 2, Russia earned 2, Sweden earned 1, Poland earned 1, Norway earned 1, USA earned the most and they got 3 Gold silver and bronze, Latvia earned 1, China earned 2, Italy earned 1, Korea earned 1, Netherlands earned 2. My favourite event was snowboarding half-pipe. Half-pipe judging, like figure-skating judging, is subjective—in other words, it’s not a timed event. To make it even more complicated, tricks don’t have an official degree of difficulty or specific points assigned to them. Also, riders don’t have to call out their runs ahead of time, so judges really have to pay attention. One thing I learned today was that only four athlete's have won medals in both summer and winter olympics.
